Abstract:
Eco-hydrology is an emerging interdisciplinary field that studies the changes in ecological patterns and processes of terrestrial surface systems and their hydrological mechanisms. Water resources are one of the most important natural resources on Earth. The eco-hydrology and Water Resources Research Center at the school of Natural Resources, Beijing Normal University, aims to establish a research and talent cultivation base that specializes in integrated studies on the monitoring of eco-hydrological processes, mechanism analysis, model simulation, and sustainable utilization of water resources in arid and semi-arid watershed areas. The research center has made breakthrough advances in comprehensive monitoring of surface water, heat, and carbon parameters, scale conversion and data fusion, multi-scale eco-hydrological processes and mechanisms, and vegetation restoration techniques in alpine degraded wetlands. The center has been awarded 18 major national and key projects and received 3 provincial and ministerial-level awards. Their research outcomes have provided essential observational data, theoretical methods, and technological systems for sustainable development in arid and semi-arid regions.
