Abstract:
Biological resource is a focus of natural resource research at Beijing Normal University. Over the past three decades (1993-2024), significant research progresses have been achieved in the theory and applications of the ecological-production paradigm, the development and utilization of vegetation dynamic models, the spatiotemporal vegetation variations and their underlying mechanisms, the mechanisms and patterns of primary productivity and carbon sinks, as well as ecosystem services and the pathways to achieve sustainable development goals. The study in biogeography and vegetation ecology has continuingly deepened the research scope, combined comprehensive approaches to address scientific questions, integrated theoretical research with practical applications, focused on academic frontiers and national priorities, and increased international collaboration and academic impact. Our future research will focus on four key areas: 1) the dynamics of vegetation resources and biodiversity conservation in the context of global change, 2) ecosystem carbon sinks and carbon neutral strategies, 3) multifunctionality of urban and novel ecosystems, and 4) sustainable development levels and pathways to achieve sustainable development goals.
