Abstract: Urban air pollution is seriously detrimental to physical and mental health of residents, leading to
deteriorated living quality. It is therefore necessary to take effective monitoring measures to provide useful
information to alleviate the effect of air pollution.Plant monitoring is a main method to assess air pollution.
Major reports have been analyzed to assesse response of vegetation to urban pollution with both traditional and
hyperspectral means of plant monitoring. Major problems encountered incurrent research were found to
include: selecting target indicators and key response parameters according to status of local air pollution;
scientifically explaining urban air quality related to scale effect based on acquired information.
